SUMMARY:Walter Trout
DESCRIPTION:Walter Trout\nThe Mary Seaton Room\nSeptember 18th\, 7 PM\nWith Opening Act: The Girls of Grosh \nKleinhans Music Hall is pleased to welcome Walter Trout to the Mary Seaton Room on Sunday\, September 18th at 7 pm\, with opening act: the Girls of Grosh. \nWALTER TROUT has been nothing short of prolific over the course of his seven decades on this Earth.  He’s set to release his 29th solo album over a career that has spanned the globe\, and delivered notoriety as one of the great purveyors of the blues and blues rock.  Trout’s history is equal parts thriller\, romance\, suspense and horror. There are musical fireworks\, critical acclaim and fists-aloft triumph\, offset by wilderness years\, brushes with the jaws of narcotic oblivion\, and the survival of an organ transplant few come back from.  From 1973\, when he left his New Jersey home headed to Los Angeles\, he has followed a road that afforded him an opportunity to just play\, sharing the stage as a sideman with Jesse Ed Davis\, Big Mama Thornton\, John Lee Hooker\, Lowell Fulson\, Joe Tex\, and of course the great John Mayall (following a three-year tenure in Canned Heat).   \nWhen Trout walked away from the Bluesbreakers\, he embarked on a solo career that has yielded a catalogue that has established a deep legacy in the world of Blues\, Americana\, and the realm of revered singer-songwriters. While many would slow down as they approach their 70th birthday\, Trout continues to deliver inspired recordings\, performances\, and a voice that articulates relevant ideology and insights in to The World that inspires his deep perspective. There’s no autopilot emanating from Walter Trout\, but a true a sense of growing momentum\, elements of surprise\, and repertoire that continues to be more compelling with each new creation.

SUMMARY:Kathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss | Together at Last!
DESCRIPTION:Kleinhans Music Hall welcomes the long-awaited collaboration between Grammy-nominated Kathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss with Together At Last!  \nThese two country and folk legends have finally joined forces to share their celebrated music and personal chemistry on stage for the entire performance\, swapping songs\, singing harmony\, and playing guitar on each other’s biggest hits.  Never content to rest on their past achievements\, the pair brings new material to these shows\, along with two careers worth of humorous and heart-warming stories. \n \nKathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss have each carved out careers in popular music with country chart hits spanning two decades.  Suzy’s “Outbound Plane”\, “Aces”\, and “Someday Soon” are among the many songs beloved by country music fans around the world\, as are “Where’ve You Been?”\, “455 Rocket”\, and “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses” from Kathy’s deep well of material. Friends since their early days in Nashville\, they had only found a few opportunities to collaborate musically\, notably with “Teach Your Children”\, their Grammy-nominated track from 1994’s “Red\, Hot + Country” compilation. They have “threatened” for years\, and their many fans have clamored for this pairing. \nFans will not want to miss this one-night only event where Kathy & Suzy are Together At Last! \nAbout Kathy Mattea\nHailed by The Washington Post as “one of Nashville’s finest song interpreters\,” Kathy Mattea has enjoyed much success and acclaim during her 35-year career in Country\, Bluegrass and Folk music\, including 2 Grammy wins\, 4 CMA Awards\, 4 #1 country singles\, and five gold albums (plus a platinum Greatest Hits collection)\, with enduring songs such as “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses” and the poignant “Where’ve You Been?”\, co-written by her husband\, Jon Vezner with Don Henry.  Her latest album is Pretty Bird\, produced by her old friend\, roots music wizard Tim O’Brien. In addition to creating and recording music and performing live on tour\, Kathy is increasingly involved with public broadcasting\, consulting and contributing on screen in Ken Burns’ 2019 documentary for PBS Country Music\, and recently replacing founder Larry Groce as the host of the long-running NPR show Mountain Stage. \nAbout Suzy Bogguss \nDuring the creative explosion that was country music in the 1990s Suzy Bogguss sold 4 million records with sparkling radio hits like “Outbound Plane”\, “Someday Soon”\, “Letting Go”\, “Drive South”\, and “Hey Cinderella”. But you can’t peg Suzy that easily… \nIn the midst of her country popularity\, she took time off to make a duets album with the legendary Chet Atkins\, an album of modern swing music with Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel\, and an album of original music that landed her at number 4 on the jazz charts. Her folk music roots show through in her frequent appearances on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion\, in the GRAMMY she earned for her work on Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster\, and in her critically acclaimed album and book project\, American Folk Songbook. In addition to her busy touring schedule\, Suzy hosts a weekly live stream\, Wine Down Wednesday\, that’s currently closing in on 100 episodes.

SUMMARY:NAT GEO LIVE | Vincent J. Musi: Where the Wild Things Live
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]For more than 30 years\, award-winning National Geographic photographer Vincent J. Musi has covered diverse assignments—from traveling Route 66 to global warming\, life under volcanoes\, and Sicilian mummies. But an unusual twist of fate has led him to the highly unpredictable world of animal portraiture. Musi gets up close—almost too close—to his unique subjects\, despite the fact that they growl\, bark\, roar\, bite\, hiss\, claw\, poop\, and pee on him. \nWith his trademark witty sense of humor\, Musi taps into his inner Dr. Dolittle as he  shares stories from his encounters with some extraordinary animals\, including a bonobo with a 300-word vocabulary\, and a crow that makes and uses tools.  He visits some exotic pets\, the world’s deadliest snakes\, rodents of unusual size\, and other animals you’d never expect to see in someone’s living room. Musi will also present his Year of the Dogs project\, a work in progress celebrating the beauty and character of these amazing creatures we welcome into our homes\, families\, and lives. \nYou’ll enjoy this offbeat odyssey into the surprising world of animal (as well as human) behavior.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Subscribe and save! SUMMARY:NAT GEO LIVE | Rae Wynn-Grant: The Secret Life of Bears
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Rae Wynn-Grant is dedicated to wildlife ecology research\, but it wasn’t until life brought her to Kenya at age 20 that she had ever taken a hike\, pitched a tent to camp\, or seen a wild animal. While there\, she studied East African lions—top carnivores that live in close quarters with local communities—and observed that problematic interactions between the two groups threatened conservation efforts. Now\, Dr. Wynn-Grant is finding similar patterns for North American black and grizzly bears. \nAs a scientist with the National Geographic Society’s Last Wild Places Initiative\, Dr. Wynn-Grant works to protect and restore iconic wildlife populations—grizzly bears\, bison\, pronghorn\, cougars\, and more. But there’s an obstacle: roads\, fences\, and cattle ranches crisscross the habitat of these wide-ranging animals. Dr. Wynn-Grant studies the movements and behaviors of the bears in an effort to find ways to improve the relationship between local communities and the powerful wildlife that surround them. \nJoin this committed carnivore ecologist for a fascinating look inside the secret lives of bears and a report from the front lines of the mission to help humans and carnivores coexist peacefully.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Subscribe and save! SUMMARY:Buffalo Chamber Music Society | Schumann Quartet
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Buffalo Chamber Music Society presents the Schumann Quartet at Kleinhans Music Hall. \nThe Schumann Quartet’s name has nothing to do with the 19th century composer Robert Schumann. The ensemble was named for Mark\, Erik and Ken Schumann\, three brothers from a hyper-musical family who have been playing together since childhood and decided to continue doing so as adults. Completing the quartet is the violist Liisa Randalu\, who was born in Estonia and grew up in Germany.  The Guardian said the quartet “combined probing intensity with wit and energy\, and a wonderful alertness to shifts of mood.” They will perform three classics\, Beethoven’s Quartet in A major\, Op.18\, No.5\, Ravel’s Quartet in F Major and Brahms’s Quartet in A minor\, Op.51\, No.2.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text] \nProgram\nBEETHOVEN  Quartet in A major\, Op.18\, No.5\nRAVEL  Quartet in F major\nINTERMISSION\nBRAHMS  Quartet in A minor\, Op.51\, No.2[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text] \nAbout the Schumann Quartet\nErik Schumann\, violin\nKen Schumann\, violin\nLiisa Randalu\, viola\nMark Schumann\, cello \nThe Schumann Quartet has reached a stage where anything is possible\, because it has dispensed with certainties. This also has consequences for audiences\, which from one concert to the next have to be prepared for all eventualities: “A work really develops only in a live performance\,” the quartet says. “That is ‘the real thing’\, because we ourselves never know what will happen. On the stage\, all imitation disappears\, and you automatically become honest with yourself. Then you can create a bond with the audience – communicate with it in music.” This live situation will gain an added energy in the near future: Sabine Meyer\, Menahem Pressler\, Andreas Ottensamer and Anna Lucia Richter are among the quartet’s current partners. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Buffalo Chamber Music Society | Belcea Quartet
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Buffalo Chamber Music Society presents the Belcea Quartet at Kleinhans Music Hall. \nOur season opens with the Belcea Quartet\, a distinguished British ensemble founded by students at the Royal College of Music. Praised by the New York Times for “technically accomplished and uncommonly probing” playing\, the quartet will present two concerts spanning more than two centuries of music. At the Mary Seaton Room they will play Mozart’s Quartet in F major\, K.590\, Szymanowski’s Quartet No.1 in C major\, Op.37\, and Schubert’s Quartet in D minor\, K.810\, one of his most famous quartets\, known as “Death and the Maiden.”[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text] \nProgram\nMOZART  Quartet in F major\, K.590\nSZYMANOWSKI  Quartet No.1 in C major\, Op.37\nINTERMISSION\nSCHUBERT  Quartet in D minor\, K.810[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text] \nAbout the Belcea Quartet\nCorina Belcea\, violin\nAxel Schacher\, violin\nKrzysztof Chorzelski\, viola\nAntoine Lederlin\, cello \nWhat the Belcea Quartet writes in the preface to its recording of the complete Beethoven String Quartets could also be described as their artistic creed. These musicians are not confined by traditional boundaries. It is perhaps the very fact of their diverse cultural backgrounds that is behind their dynamic and free interpretative style. Founded at the Royal College of Music in London in 1994\, the quartet is based in Great Britain. However\, the Romanian violinist Corina Belcea and the Polish violist Krzysztof Chorzelski\, the two founder members\, bring a very different artistic provenance to the ensemble while drawing from the best traditions of string quartet playing received from the quartet’s mentors: the members of the Alban Berg and Amadeus Quartets. This spectrum is extended by the French musicians Axel Schacher (violin) and Antoine Lederlin (violoncello). The Belcea Quartet blends its diverse influences into a common musical language. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
