Hailed by The New York Times as “passionate\, tender and rambunctious\,” Cherish The Ladies have released three critically acclaimed holiday albums\, On Christmas Night\, A Star In The East\, and 2015’s Christmas In Ireland. \nAbout Cherish the Ladies\n“It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that wouldn’t enjoy what they do\,” says The Boston Globe of Cherish The Ladies\, Grammy Award nominated Irish-American supergroup that formed in 1985 to celebrate the rise of extraordinary women in what had been a male-dominated Celtic music scene. Cherish The Ladies has shared timeless Irish traditions and good cheer with audiences worldwide for decades. The Washington Post praises the “astonishing array of virtuosity” that Cherish The Ladies bring to the stage on a regular basis. Their continued success as one of the top Celtic groups in the world is due to the ensemble’s ability to take the best of Irish traditional music and dance and put it forth in an immensely entertaining show. \nThe  New  York  Times  calls   their   music   “passionate\,   tender\,   and   rambunctious\,”   and  the Washington  Post praises  their  “astonishing   array   of   virtuosity.”   They’ve   won recognition as the BBC’s Best Musical Group of the Year and named Top North American Celtic Group at the Irish Music Awards and not to mention having a street named after them in the Bronx! They’ve collaborated with such musicians as The Boston Pops\, The Clancy Brothers\, the Chieftains\, Vince Gill\, Nanci Griffith\, Pete Seeger\, Don Henley\,  Arlo Guthrie and Maura O’Connell as well as being the featured soloist with over 280 nights of symphony orchestras. \nThe level of artistic\, historic\, and purely enticing entertainment is unlike any in its genre. At a very early age\, Joanie was exposed to the finest Irish traditional music listening to her father and his friends play music at family gatherings and social events. She began taking lessons from legendary flutist and National Heritage Award winner Jack Coen\, and within a few short years\, she had achieved great success winning the world championship in Irish music on both the concert flute and tin whistle. During that time\, Joanie also became the first American to win the coveted Senior All- Ireland Championship on the whistle. \nMadden has sold over 500\,000 solo albums and has performed on over 200 recordings\, including three Grammy-winning albums running the gamut from Pete Seeger and Sinead O’Connor to the Boston Pops. She is a founding member of Cherish the Ladies. Her mother came from Castlerea in County Roscommon and her father Jim was a great accordion player whose parents emigrated from County Waterford. Her father passed down his love of Irish music to Mary and she became a self-taught guitar\, mandolin and bouzouki player. In addition to her outstanding musical talents\, Mary also holds her masters degree in education and was named in Who’s Who among American Teachers. She has a number of recordings including a beautiful solo album entitled; “Christmas” and also one with her father called “Passing Time”\, but her close ties to children pushed her to make a wonderful collection of music with her great friend Kathy Ludlowe for our young fans entitled\, “The Big Ship Sails.” She continues to teach music to children in New York and is a highly sought-after accompanist. Acoustic Guitar Magazine named Mary one of the top four Celtic guitarists in Celtic music. \nMIRELLA MURRAY grew up in Claddaghduff on the northwest coast of Connemara in County Galway. This “sound” is so attractive to other musicians that there exists hardly any major Irish artist of the last thirty years with whom she has not worked – and many international artists have been equally entranced. \nA graduate from University College Cork with a Bachelors in Music Degree at the exceptionally early age of nineteen\, she embarked upon a professional career first joining the RTÉ Symphony Orchestra where she remained for three years until she joined the ground breaking Irish band\, Planxty. \nIn addition to her work with Cherish the Ladies\, Nollaig has recorded and worked with Enya\, Van Morrison\, Sinéad O’Connor\, Nanci Griffith\, Ricky Skaggs\, Rod Stewart\, Dónal Lunny\, Mary Black\, Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy\, Carlos Nuñez\, Jim Rooney\, Andy Irvine\, Moving Hearts\, The Indigo Girls\, Spandau Ballet\, Christy Moore\, Liam O’Flynn\, Dan ar Bras\, Sharon Shannon\, Maura O’Connell\, Dick Gaughan\, Paddy Keenan\, Máirtín O’Connor. His passionate singing and majestic voice guarantees a most impressive performance in front of a live audience as those who have seen him perform in Ireland\, Europe and the USA can attest to. 2011 was a year to remember for Don\, as he was one of the finalists in one of Ireland most watched TV programs\, The All Ireland Talent Show. His continued popularity and support from viewers provided him with many weeks of performing to live audiences of up to 800\,000 tuning in weekly. Irish American super group; Cherish The Ladies invited Don to join them on their summer tour of Ireland and Scotland and also further touring consisting of 18 States in America as part of their Christmas Tour. Despite his traditional background\, Garrett has consistently found himself drawn to rhythmically innovative types of movement that push the boundaries of athleticism through dance. SUMMARY:Art of Jazz | Marquis Hill - New Gospel Revisited
DESCRIPTION:Marquis Hill\nNew Gospel Revisited\nFriday\, April 14 at 8 pm\nNew Gospel Revisited is the most recent musical project from the fearless and formidable American composer and trumpeter Marquis Hill. It involved the capturing of a live recording that revisits and reinterprets his debut 2012 album New Gospel\, this time round employing a band of super-heavyweight musicians.  Marquis Hill’s rise over the last few years has been striking and there’s no letting up. Since winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute Jazz Composition award in 2014\, he has demonstrated full command of his art and built a reputation for synthesizing what he describes as the essential elements of the Africa-American creative heritage including contemporary and classic jazz\, R&B\, and neo-soul. New Gospel Revisited\, is an extraordinary project that reimagines his debut as a leader\, a new focus\, and a sharpened ear as a bandleader\, composer\, and performer.  Hill has garnered glowing coverage of his compositions in outlets like the New Yorker\, the New York Times\, JazzTimes\, NPR Music\, and DownBeat\, where he topped the “Rising Star– Trumpet” category in the 2016 Critics Poll.  He has also supported with compositions and guested with a jazz who’s who that includes Marcus Miller\, Dee Dee Bridgewater\, Kurt Elling\, Joe Lovano\, and Hill’s trailblazing Chicago peer Makaya McCraven.  Hill makes his exciting debut performance in Buffalo on this date.  \nAbout Art of Jazz at the Philharmonic \nDuring the past 20 plus years\, Art of Jazz has earned a reputation as one of the premier jazz series in North America. SUMMARY:Marcia Ball and Tinsley Ellis
DESCRIPTION:Kleinhans Music Hall presents\nAcoustic Songs & Stories\nFeaturing\nMarcia Ball and Tinsley Ellis\nMary Seaton Room\, Kleinhans Music Hall\nTinsley Ellis and Marcia Ball are excited to present an intimate evening of their music and memories called Acoustic Songs and Stories. They will each play a set of their own songs.  Tinsley\, an elder statesman of the Blues world\, will perform many of his most popular songs from his twenty albums\, plus some delta blues and classics on his National Steel and Martin acoustic guitars.  Marcia\, a five-time Grammy nominee\, will play the piano and sing her often raucous and sometimes touching original songs full of the characters and places that shaped her.  They will weave the music together with stories from their years on stage and on the road.  Finally\, they will come together as a duo to close the night playing songs together and swapping tales of their travels and travails.  \nAbout Marcia Ball\n“Fifty years have passed in a flash\,” says pianist\, songwriter\, and vocalist Marcia Ball of her long and storied career.  Ball\, the 2018 Texas State Musician Of The Year\, has won worldwide fame and countless fans for her ability to ignite a full-scale roadhouse party every time she takes the stage. Born in Orange\, Texas and raised in Vinton\, Louisiana\, her deep Acadian heritage and a lifetime of absorbing Gulf Coast rhythm and blues is evident in her original songs and the classics she chooses to cover.  This has made her a one-of-a-kind favorite with music lovers all over the world.  With each new release\, her reputation as a profoundly soulful singer\, a boundlessly talented pianist and a courageous\, inventive songwriter continues to grow. Her love of the road has led to years of soul-satisfying performances at festivals\, concert halls and clubs. \nIn Marcia’s most recent album\, Shine Bright\, she has put together the most musically substantial\, hopeful and uplifting set of songs of her five-decade career.  Produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) and recorded in Texas and Louisiana\, Shine Bright contains twelve songs (including eight originals)\, ranging from the title track’s rousing appeal for public and private acts of courage to the upbeat call to action of Pots And Pans\, a song inspired by renowned Texas political writer and humorist Molly Ivins.  From the humorous advice of Life Of The Party to the poignantly optimistic World Full Of Love\, the intensity of Ball’s conviction never wavers while\, simultaneously\, the fun never stops.  “It is a ridiculously hopeful\, cheerful record\,” she says\, in light of some of the album’s more serious subject matter.  The secret\, according to Ball “is to set the political songs to a good dance beat.” \n“A welcome ray of sunshine…Ball is a killer pianist\, a great singer and songwriter. Potent blues\, sweet zydeco\, soulful\, fast and furious Texas boogie…heartfelt\, powerful and righteous.” – Billboard \nMarcia grew up in a family whose female members all played piano and she began taking lessons at age five\, playing old Tin Pan Alley and popular music tunes from her grandmother’s collection.  But it wasn’t until she was 13 that Marcia discovered the power of soul music.  One day in 1962\, she sat amazed as Irma Thomas performed on a show at the Municipal Auditorium in New Orleans and delivered the most spirited and moving performance the young teenager had ever seen.  A few years later she attended Louisiana State University and after dropping out to explore the brave new hippie world of the late 1960s\, she was invited to try out for a blues-based rock band called Gum.  She made the cut and her future was set. \nIn 1970\, Ball left Baton Rouge for San Francisco.  Her car broke down in Austin\, and while waiting for repairs she fell in love with the city and decided to stay.  It wasn’t long before she was performing in local clubs with a band called Freda And The Firedogs\, a group that pioneered the Progressive Country movement\, which attracted many musicians and significant media attention to Austin.   It was around this time that she discovered Professor Longhair\, the seminal New Orleans piano player.  “Once I found out about Professor Longhair\,” recalls Ball\, “I knew I had found my direction.” \n“Marcia Ball plays two-fisted New Orleans barrelhouse piano and sings in a husky\, knowing voice about all the trouble men and women can get into on the way to a good time.” – The New York Times \nWhen Freda And The Firedogs broke up in 1974\, Ball launched her solo career and began touring outside of Texas and Louisiana.  She signed with Capitol Records in 1977\, debuting with the country-rock album Circuit Queen.  As she created and honed her own sound\, she released six critically acclaimed titles on the Rounder Records label during the 1980s and 1990s.  In 1990\, Ball—collaborating with Angela Strehli and Lou Ann Barton—recorded the hugely successful Dreams Come True on the Antone’s label.  At the end of 1997\, Marcia finished work on a similar “three divas of the blues” project for Rounder\, this time in the distinguished company of Tracy Nelson and her longtime inspiration\, Irma Thomas.  The CD\, Sing It!\, was released in 1998 and was nominated for a Grammy Award. \nMarcia Ball has appeared many times on national television over the years\, including the PBS special In Performance At The White House along with B.B. King and Della Reese\, Austin City Limits and HBO’s Treme.  She performed in Piano Blues\, the film directed by Clint Eastwood included in Martin Scorsese’s The Blues series which aired on PBS television nationwide in 2003.  Marcia also appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman with The New Orleans Social Club\, where she not only reached millions of people\, but also helped to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina.  In 2012\, she had a role in the independent film Angels Sing starring Harry Connick\, Jr.\, Lyle Lovett and Willie Nelson.  In 2017 she performed on NPR’s A Jazz Piano Christmas\, live from The Kennedy Center in Washington\, D.C. \nBall joined Alligator Records in 2001 with the release of the critically acclaimed Presumed Innocent.  The CD won the 2002 Blues Music Award for Blues Album Of The Year.  Her follow-up\, So Many Rivers\, was nominated for a Grammy Award\, and won the 2004 Blues Music Award for Contemporary Blues Album Of The Year as well as the coveted Contemporary Blues Female Artist Of The Year award.  Her next release\, Live! Down The Road\, released in 2005\, also garnered a Grammy nomination\, as did 2008’s Peace\, Love & BBQ (the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart).  She holds eleven Blues Music Awards\, ten Living Blues Awards\, and five Grammy Award nominations.  2010’s Grammy-nominated Roadside Attractions and 2014’s The Tattooed Lady And The Alligator Man successfully grew her fan base even further. \nShe has been inducted into both the Gulf Coast Music Hall Of Fame and the Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame.  The Texas State legislature named her the official 2018 Texas State Musician.  In 2018\, Marcia was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame. \n“She’s as perfect as an artist can be.” – The Houston Chronicle \nSince March of 2020 and the onset of the COVID pandemic and subsequent lock-down\, Marcia has filled her time with work on a nonprofit organization she co-founded called HOME – Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers\, which pays rent and utilities for older musicians in the Austin area.  HOMEaustin.org.  She also improved her streaming and virtual performance abilities enough to participate in many on-line fundraising efforts throughout the year.  She put her domestic skills to work making masks.  She and her husband Gordon got a dog to replace their dear Lily.  She has written songs and  she is collaborating on a musical play which she hopes becomes a real live show in the near future. \nAnd she’s getting the band ready to get back out on the road.  “I still love the feel of the wheels rolling\,” she says\, “and the energy in a room full of people ready to go wherever it is we take them.” \n  \nAbout Tinsley Ellis\n Georgia troubadour Tinsley Ellis has been immersed in music his whole life. Born in Atlanta 1957 and raised in southern Florida\, he acquired his first guitar at age seven\, inspired by seeing The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. Like many kids his age\, Ellis discovered the blues through the back door of British Invasion bands like The Yardbirds\, Cream and The Rolling Stones as well as Southern rockers like the Allman Brothers Band. 20 albums (and millions of miles traveled) later on record labels such as Alligator and Capricorn\, Ellis has become an elder statesman of the blues world. \nWith his new project Tinsley Ellis – Acoustic Songs And Stories\, Ellis performs many of his most popular songs (plus delta blues and classics by artists like Gregg Allman\, Bob Dylan and Leo Kottke) on his 1937 National Steel and 1969 Martin D-35. Ellis weaves the music together with interesting and sometimes ribald stories from over 40 years of a life spent on stages and in motels and truck stops. Ellis shows no signs of slowing down and is headed your way with his newest and perhaps most unique project.

SUMMARY:Art of Jazz | Elio Villafranca & The Chick Corea Afro-Caribbean Experience
DESCRIPTION:Elio Villafranca & The Chick Corea Afro-Caribbean Experience – Sold Out!\nSunday\, February 5 at 3 pm\nChick Corea was quoted in a 2019 Billboard interview as saying\, “That [Latin] flavor\, I find\, is mostly in everything I do; it’s a part of me.” As we celebrate jazz icon Chick Corea\, who tragically passed away in February 2021\, Grammy Nominated Cuban pianist Elio Villafranca will delve into the maestro’s compositions from a distinctly Afro-Caribbean meets Jazz perspective\, joined by a sextet of master musicians including Grammy winner saxophonist Donny McCaslin. When Jazz at Lincoln Center hosted a week-long Chick Corea Festival in 2013\, Chick hand-picked the musicians he wanted to see and hear\, with Elio Villafranca being one of them. Chick’s masterful storytelling knew no bounds—from Bach and Bartok to the Blues\, from Stravinsky to Samba\, Mozart to Montunos\, Ravel and Rhumba—all tempered with the language of swing with the Spanish Tinge.  The Chick Corea Afro-Caribbean Experience musical arrangements have only been performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center during two special Chick Corea tribute engagements. This concert will be a one-time only special command performance in Buffalo! \nSubscribe and save! SUMMARY:CANCELED -- Habib Koité and Bamada
DESCRIPTION:Due to the impending weather situation and the difficult travel conditions that may arise from it\, tonight’s concert at Kleinhans Music Hall featuring Habib Koité and Bamada has unfortunately been canceled. All tickets will be refunded in full. Please contact the Box Office with any questions at (716) 885-5000.\n\nKleinhans Music Hall is pleased to welcome Habib Koité and Bamada\, with opening act the African American Cultural Center Dance and Drummer Company\, to the Mary Seaton Room on Thursday\, November 17th at 7:30 PM. \nOne of Africa’s most popular and recognized musicians\, Habib Koité is a modern troubadour with extraordinary appeal because Koité’s musicianship\, wit and wisdom translate across cultures. Hailing from the musically prolific West African nation of Mali\, the guitarist and composer has been named the biggest pop star of the region by Rolling Stone. Over the past decade\, his artistry and magnetic personality have made him an international star\, delighting audiences the world over\, and placing him firmly among the leading figures in contemporary world music. Bonnie Raitt proclaims\, “first there was Hendrix\, then Stevie Ray\, and now Habib.” \nHabib’s much-anticipated new release\, Kharifa\, was recorded entirely in Bamako. The sound of Mali\, its rich and diversified musical traditions\, and its instruments permeate the music of this superb project. It can be said that the Malian guitarist has matured\, evolved\, while once again successfully keeping one foot firmly anchored in the past. The original compositions and covers that form the backbone of this new album reflect the griot’s open spirit\, his willingness to travel through the rich Malian heritage while building the foundations of a resolutely modern music\, also influenced by Western rock and folk. \nOften compared to Eric Clapton\, the Malian reveals himself to be closer to a JJ Cale\, in his manner of occupying space with the guitar\, playing the note rather than notes\, allowing arpeggios to flow through the percussion\, caressing while directing with true virtuosity\, the rhythmic breath of each track on the album. \nHabib Koité takes his time. \nThis shows in his interest and involvement in everyday life in Bamako. Without ever denying the problems that plague his city and country – pollution\, poverty\, idleness\, insalubrity\, disease – Habib remains resolutely optimistic\, hopeful\, fighting against intolerance\, ignorance and obscurantism. While Mandé talks about reconciliation\, Kharifa calls for accountability of each individual. “Life is a daily struggle” he sings. \n  \nThanks to our Promotional Partner\, The African American Cultural Center.

DESCRIPTION:Walter Trout\nThe Mary Seaton Room\nSeptember 18th\, 7 PM\nWith Opening Act: The Girls of Grosh \nKleinhans Music Hall is pleased to welcome Walter Trout to the Mary Seaton Room on Sunday\, September 18th at 7 pm\, with opening act: the Girls of Grosh. \nWALTER TROUT has been nothing short of prolific over the course of his seven decades on this Earth.  He’s set to release his 29th solo album over a career that has spanned the globe\, and delivered notoriety as one of the great purveyors of the blues and blues rock.  Trout’s history is equal parts thriller\, romance\, suspense and horror. There are musical fireworks\, critical acclaim and fists-aloft triumph\, offset by wilderness years\, brushes with the jaws of narcotic oblivion\, and the survival of an organ transplant few come back from.  From 1973\, when he left his New Jersey home headed to Los Angeles\, he has followed a road that afforded him an opportunity to just play\, sharing the stage as a sideman with Jesse Ed Davis\, Big Mama Thornton\, John Lee Hooker\, Lowell Fulson\, Joe Tex\, and of course the great John Mayall (following a three-year tenure in Canned Heat).   \nWhen Trout walked away from the Bluesbreakers\, he embarked on a solo career that has yielded a catalogue that has established a deep legacy in the world of Blues\, Americana\, and the realm of revered singer-songwriters. While many would slow down as they approach their 70th birthday\, Trout continues to deliver inspired recordings\, performances\, and a voice that articulates relevant ideology and insights in to The World that inspires his deep perspective. There’s no autopilot emanating from Walter Trout\, but a true a sense of growing momentum\, elements of surprise\, and repertoire that continues to be more compelling with each new creation.

SUMMARY:Kathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss | Together at Last!
DESCRIPTION:Kleinhans Music Hall welcomes the long-awaited collaboration between Grammy-nominated Kathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss with Together At Last!  \nThese two country and folk legends have finally joined forces to share their celebrated music and personal chemistry on stage for the entire performance\, swapping songs\, singing harmony\, and playing guitar on each other’s biggest hits.  Never content to rest on their past achievements\, the pair brings new material to these shows\, along with two careers worth of humorous and heart-warming stories. \n \nKathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss have each carved out careers in popular music with country chart hits spanning two decades.  Suzy’s “Outbound Plane”\, “Aces”\, and “Someday Soon” are among the many songs beloved by country music fans around the world\, as are “Where’ve You Been?”\, “455 Rocket”\, and “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses” from Kathy’s deep well of material. Friends since their early days in Nashville\, they had only found a few opportunities to collaborate musically\, notably with “Teach Your Children”\, their Grammy-nominated track from 1994’s “Red\, Hot + Country” compilation. They have “threatened” for years\, and their many fans have clamored for this pairing. \nFans will not want to miss this one-night only event where Kathy & Suzy are Together At Last! \nAbout Kathy Mattea\nHailed by The Washington Post as “one of Nashville’s finest song interpreters\,” Kathy Mattea has enjoyed much success and acclaim during her 35-year career in Country\, Bluegrass and Folk music\, including 2 Grammy wins\, 4 CMA Awards\, 4 #1 country singles\, and five gold albums (plus a platinum Greatest Hits collection)\, with enduring songs such as “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses” and the poignant “Where’ve You Been?”\, co-written by her husband\, Jon Vezner with Don Henry.  Her latest album is Pretty Bird\, produced by her old friend\, roots music wizard Tim O’Brien. In addition to creating and recording music and performing live on tour\, Kathy is increasingly involved with public broadcasting\, consulting and contributing on screen in Ken Burns’ 2019 documentary for PBS Country Music\, and recently replacing founder Larry Groce as the host of the long-running NPR show Mountain Stage. \nAbout Suzy Bogguss \nDuring the creative explosion that was country music in the 1990s Suzy Bogguss sold 4 million records with sparkling radio hits like “Outbound Plane”\, “Someday Soon”\, “Letting Go”\, “Drive South”\, and “Hey Cinderella”. But you can’t peg Suzy that easily… \nIn the midst of her country popularity\, she took time off to make a duets album with the legendary Chet Atkins\, an album of modern swing music with Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel\, and an album of original music that landed her at number 4 on the jazz charts. Her folk music roots show through in her frequent appearances on public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion\, in the GRAMMY she earned for her work on Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster\, and in her critically acclaimed album and book project\, American Folk Songbook. In addition to her busy touring schedule\, Suzy hosts a weekly live stream\, Wine Down Wednesday\, that’s currently closing in on 100 episodes.

SUMMARY:NAT GEO LIVE | Vincent J. Musi: Where the Wild Things Live
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]For more than 30 years\, award-winning National Geographic photographer Vincent J. Musi has covered diverse assignments—from traveling Route 66 to global warming\, life under volcanoes\, and Sicilian mummies. But an unusual twist of fate has led him to the highly unpredictable world of animal portraiture. Musi gets up close—almost too close—to his unique subjects\, despite the fact that they growl\, bark\, roar\, bite\, hiss\, claw\, poop\, and pee on him. \nWith his trademark witty sense of humor\, Musi taps into his inner Dr. Dolittle as he  shares stories from his encounters with some extraordinary animals\, including a bonobo with a 300-word vocabulary\, and a crow that makes and uses tools.  He visits some exotic pets\, the world’s deadliest snakes\, rodents of unusual size\, and other animals you’d never expect to see in someone’s living room. Musi will also present his Year of the Dogs project\, a work in progress celebrating the beauty and character of these amazing creatures we welcome into our homes\, families\, and lives. \nYou’ll enjoy this offbeat odyssey into the surprising world of animal (as well as human) behavior.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Subscribe and save! SUMMARY:NAT GEO LIVE | Rae Wynn-Grant: The Secret Life of Bears
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Rae Wynn-Grant is dedicated to wildlife ecology research\, but it wasn’t until life brought her to Kenya at age 20 that she had ever taken a hike\, pitched a tent to camp\, or seen a wild animal. While there\, she studied East African lions—top carnivores that live in close quarters with local communities—and observed that problematic interactions between the two groups threatened conservation efforts. Now\, Dr. Wynn-Grant is finding similar patterns for North American black and grizzly bears. \nAs a scientist with the National Geographic Society’s Last Wild Places Initiative\, Dr. Wynn-Grant works to protect and restore iconic wildlife populations—grizzly bears\, bison\, pronghorn\, cougars\, and more. But there’s an obstacle: roads\, fences\, and cattle ranches crisscross the habitat of these wide-ranging animals. Dr. Wynn-Grant studies the movements and behaviors of the bears in an effort to find ways to improve the relationship between local communities and the powerful wildlife that surround them. \nJoin this committed carnivore ecologist for a fascinating look inside the secret lives of bears and a report from the front lines of the mission to help humans and carnivores coexist peacefully.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Subscribe and save! DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Buffalo Chamber Music Society presents the Schumann Quartet at Kleinhans Music Hall. \nThe Schumann Quartet’s name has nothing to do with the 19th century composer Robert Schumann. The ensemble was named for Mark\, Erik and Ken Schumann\, three brothers from a hyper-musical family who have been playing together since childhood and decided to continue doing so as adults. Completing the quartet is the violist Liisa Randalu\, who was born in Estonia and grew up in Germany.  The Guardian said the quartet “combined probing intensity with wit and energy\, and a wonderful alertness to shifts of mood.” They will perform three classics\, Beethoven’s Quartet in A major\, Op.18\, No.5\, Ravel’s Quartet in F Major and Brahms’s Quartet in A minor\, Op.51\, No.2.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text] \nProgram\nBEETHOVEN  Quartet in A major\, Op.18\, No.5\nRAVEL  Quartet in F major\nINTERMISSION\nBRAHMS  Quartet in A minor\, Op.51\, No.2[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text] \nAbout the Schumann Quartet\nErik Schumann\, violin\nKen Schumann\, violin\nLiisa Randalu\, viola\nMark Schumann\, cello \nThe Schumann Quartet has reached a stage where anything is possible\, because it has dispensed with certainties. This also has consequences for audiences\, which from one concert to the next have to be prepared for all eventualities: “A work really develops only in a live performance\,” the quartet says. “That is ‘the real thing’\, because we ourselves never know what will happen. On the stage\, all imitation disappears\, and you automatically become honest with yourself. Then you can create a bond with the audience – communicate with it in music.” This live situation will gain an added energy in the near future: Sabine Meyer\, Menahem Pressler\, Andreas Ottensamer and Anna Lucia Richter are among the quartet’s current partners. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Buffalo Chamber Music Society | Belcea Quartet
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Buffalo Chamber Music Society presents the Belcea Quartet at Kleinhans Music Hall. \nOur season opens with the Belcea Quartet\, a distinguished British ensemble founded by students at the Royal College of Music. Praised by the New York Times for “technically accomplished and uncommonly probing” playing\, the quartet will present two concerts spanning more than two centuries of music. At the Mary Seaton Room they will play Mozart’s Quartet in F major\, K.590\, Szymanowski’s Quartet No.1 in C major\, Op.37\, and Schubert’s Quartet in D minor\, K.810\, one of his most famous quartets\, known as “Death and the Maiden.”[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text] \nProgram\nMOZART  Quartet in F major\, K.590\nSZYMANOWSKI  Quartet No.1 in C major\, Op.37\nINTERMISSION\nSCHUBERT  Quartet in D minor\, K.810[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”black”][vc_column_text] \nAbout the Belcea Quartet\nCorina Belcea\, violin\nAxel Schacher\, violin\nKrzysztof Chorzelski\, viola\nAntoine Lederlin\, cello \nWhat the Belcea Quartet writes in the preface to its recording of the complete Beethoven String Quartets could also be described as their artistic creed. These musicians are not confined by traditional boundaries. It is perhaps the very fact of their diverse cultural backgrounds that is behind their dynamic and free interpretative style. Founded at the Royal College of Music in London in 1994\, the quartet is based in Great Britain. However\, the Romanian violinist Corina Belcea and the Polish violist Krzysztof Chorzelski\, the two founder members\, bring a very different artistic provenance to the ensemble while drawing from the best traditions of string quartet playing received from the quartet’s mentors: the members of the Alban Berg and Amadeus Quartets. This spectrum is extended by the French musicians Axel Schacher (violin) and Antoine Lederlin (violoncello). The Belcea Quartet blends its diverse influences into a common musical language. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
