SUMMARY:Nicole Zuraitis Quintet
DESCRIPTION:Kleinhans Music Hall and JazzBuffalo are pleased to present\nThe Nicole Zuraitis Quintet\nSunday\, November 8 | 3 PM\nThe Mary Seaton Room\nJazz at Kleinhans proudly welcomes one of the most dynamic and decorated voices in contemporary jazz — two-time GRAMMY® winner and six-time GRAMMY-nominated artist Nicole Zuraitis. \nA singular creative force\, Zuraitis is not only an extraordinary vocalist and pianist\, but also a composer\, arranger\, and bandleader redefining what she calls The Modern Songbook. In 2024\, she made history when her album How Love Begins — featuring all original music that she wrote and arranged herself — won the GRAMMY® Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. She is the only artist ever to receive that honor for a fully self-written and self-arranged project. The album was co-produced by eight-time GRAMMY winner Christian McBride\, affirming her stature among today’s most respected jazz artists. \nHer résumé reads like a blueprint of modern jazz excellence. From headlining the Newport Jazz Festival and Tanglewood to appearing at Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center\, Birdland\, and the Blue Note\, Zuraitis has established herself on the world’s premier stages. She has performed with the Birdland Big Band\, collaborated with major large ensembles around the globe\, and worked alongside luminaries such as Jon Batiste\, Keb’ Mo’\, and Christian McBride. Her recent live album Live at Vic’s Las Vegas earned two 2026 GRAMMY nominations and was featured nationally on NPR’s Toast of the Nation. \nBut beyond accolades\, Nicole Zuraitis brings something rarer — fearless originality. Her performances combine virtuosic musicianship\, lyrical storytelling\, and spontaneous invention. She moves effortlessly between jazz tradition and contemporary songwriting\, honoring the lineage of the art form while expanding its vocabulary for a new generation. \nAppearing with her quintet in the superb acoustical setting of Kleinhans Music Hall\, Zuraitis represents exactly what Jazz at Kleinhans is committed to presenting: internationally recognized artists at the height of their creative powers. This is not simply a club date transported to a larger room — it is a fully realized\, world-class presentation of a modern jazz leader whose influence continues to grow on the global stage. \nJazz at Kleinhans remains dedicated to bringing Buffalo audiences the very best in jazz — from honoring the Great American Songbook to showcasing the artists who are shaping its future. Nicole Zuraitis stands firmly in that future. \nJoin us for an evening that affirms why Jazz at Kleinhans has become Buffalo’s premier home for world-class jazz.

SUMMARY:Ann Hampton Callaway Celebrates Harold Arlen
DESCRIPTION:Kleinhans Music Hall and JazzBuffalo are pleased to present\nAnn Hampton Callaway Celebrates Harold Arlen\nSunday\, February 7 | 3 PM\nThe Mary Seaton Room\nEach year\, Jazz at Kleinhans proudly gathers our community to honor Buffalo’s greatest son in American music — Harold Arlen. His songs shaped the very fabric of the Great American Songbook\, giving the world timeless works such as “Over the Rainbow\,” “Stormy Weather\,” and “Come Rain or Come Shine.” This annual celebration is more than a concert; it is a reaffirmation of Buffalo’s profound place in American musical history. \nFor the 3rd Annual Harold Arlen Celebration\, we welcome the extraordinary Ann Hampton Callaway — a Tony Award nominee and one of the world’s most revered champions of the Great American Songbook. An insatiable creative spirit\, Callaway has distinguished herself not only as a luminous vocalist and pianist but also as a composer\, lyricist\, arranger\, educator\, actress\, and producer. Her artistry seamlessly blends jazz and traditional pop\, making her a commanding presence in concert halls\, theaters\, jazz clubs\, and symphony stages across the globe. \nCallaway’s Broadway acclaim includes her Tony-nominated performance in Swing!\, and she is widely known as the writer and performer of the beloved theme song to the television series The Nanny. A Platinum Award–winning songwriter\, her compositions have been recorded by Barbra Streisand on five albums — a remarkable testament to her stature among America’s finest interpreters and composers. Notably\, she remains the only composer to have collaborated directly with Cole Porter and has written with luminaries such as Carole King and others who have shaped American popular music. \nHer live performances are celebrated for their warmth\, wit\, spontaneity\, and emotional depth. Callaway is regarded as one of America’s most gifted improvisers\, often creating songs in the moment from audience suggestions — whether at the piano or in front of a full symphony orchestra. She has appeared as a special guest with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra\, performed with the Boston Pops\, and been featured in tributes at Carnegie Hall. She has sung with more than twenty-five of the world’s leading orchestras and has performed on international stages from Berlin’s Philharmonie Hall to Washington\, D.C.\, and Moscow. \nIt is precisely this depth of experience — this lifelong devotion to America’s master songwriters — that makes Ann Hampton Callaway uniquely suited to honor Harold Arlen. She brings not only vocal brilliance\, but an interpretive intelligence and reverence that elevates Arlen’s music to its rightful stature. \nJoining her is the renowned pianist Ted Rosenthal\, whose virtuosity and sensitivity have made him one of the most respected jazz pianists of his generation\, and internationally respected bassist Martin Wind\, forming a trio of exceptional artistry. Together\, they promise an evening of sophistication\, swing\, intimacy\, and brilliance worthy of Arlen’s enduring legacy. \nThe Harold Arlen Celebration has become a defining pillar of Jazz at Kleinhans — a program committed to presenting internationally acclaimed artists while honoring the architects of American music. In the magnificent acoustical setting of Kleinhans Music Hall\, these performances continue to elevate Buffalo’s cultural standing and affirm Jazz at Kleinhans as the city’s premier home for world-class jazz. \nThis is not simply an evening of song. It is a civic tribute\, a celebration of excellence\, and a continuation of a tradition that places Buffalo firmly on the national jazz stage. \nWe invite you to join us for this special occasion as we honor Harold Arlen — and continue building one of Buffalo’s most meaningful cultural traditions.

SUMMARY:Alfredo Rodríguez Trio
DESCRIPTION:Kleinhans Music Hall and JazzBuffalo are pleased to present\nAlfredo Rodríguez Trio\nSunday\, March 14 | 3 PM\nThe Mary Seaton Room\nFew pianists today embody the electrifying spirit of Latin jazz quite like Alfredo Rodríguez. Born and classically trained in Havana\, Rodríguez has forged a bold international career defined by rhythmic brilliance\, fearless improvisation\, and a deep reverence for his Cuban roots. \nMentored early in his career by the legendary Quincy Jones\, Rodríguez quickly emerged as one of the most compelling pianists of his generation. His artistry seamlessly blends Afro-Cuban rhythms\, jazz improvisation\, classical discipline\, and contemporary energy into a sound that is both technically dazzling and emotionally immediate. \nRodríguez is a Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee\, recognized for his boundary-pushing recordings that reinterpret Cuban and American song traditions with fresh urgency. His albums have consistently drawn critical acclaim for their virtuosity and innovation\, positioning him as a leading voice in modern global jazz. Beyond awards recognition\, he has performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages and festivals\, collaborating with major international artists and orchestras while maintaining the intimate fire of the jazz trio format. \nRodríguez’s latest album\, ¡TAKE COVER!\, was born on the road — on airplanes\, during soundchecks\, and on stages around the world. The project reimagines some of the most iconic songs of all time through Cuban\, Caribbean\, and Latin rhythms\, transforming global classics into vibrant\, high-energy musical experiences. Created live and shaped by his audience\, ¡TAKE COVER! stands as Alfredo’s most personal release to date — a direct reflection of the spontaneous energy that only exists between artist and crowd. \nHis music has reached millions across digital platforms\, with viral performances amassing millions of views worldwide. Global tours continue to sell out venues across Europe\, Latin America\, and the United States\, where audiences experience a rare and powerful connection between virtuosity\, rhythm\, and emotional immediacy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the trio setting\, Rodríguez is at his most exhilarating. His playing can shift in an instant — from explosive\, percussive montuno patterns that ignite the rhythm section to breathtakingly lyrical passages that reveal his classical foundation. The interplay between piano\, bass\, and drums becomes a kinetic dialogue\, fueled by Cuban rhythmic tradition and propelled by contemporary jazz imagination. \nAudiences can expect an evening of high-voltage musicianship: original compositions infused with Afro-Caribbean pulse\, inventive reworkings of standards\, and moments of improvisational daring that remind us why jazz remains one of the most vital art forms in the world. \nOn March 14\, 2027\, the Alfredo Rodríguez Trio brings that fire\, elegance\, and global perspective to the stage — a celebration of rhythm\, virtuosity\, and the boundless possibilities of modern Latin jazz.
