The Spirit of Nina Simone
Friday, February 24
Kleinhans Music Hall, 8:00 pm
A sold out crowd fills Kleinhans Music Hall to hear Nina Simone, the incomparable ‘High Priestess of Soul’.
It is not in 1964 when Nina, one of the most lyrical and conscientious singers in American musical history, came to Buffalo to perform in concert at the Symphony Circle venue.
It is February 24, 2017. Fifty-three years later.
On that evening, Drea D’Nur, amazingly talented Buffalo-bred international recording artist, will sit down at the piano on that same stage, and bring us an epic musical and visual homage to a true musical genius. ” (Challenger News)
The audience will witness a 10-piece jazz ensemble with Creative Music Director Karen Saxon; Modern dance choreography by (Alvin Ailey Theatre-trained) Robin Hibbert; Select string section directed by Violinist Juliette Jones; and moving monologue by Shantinna Moore of Ujima Theater and a special tribute to Buffalo Guitarist and Percussionist, Emile Latimer, who toured with Nina Simone.
